I’ve been wanting to write this for a quite a while. I love fonts. They’re a great way to express yourself, and typographers deserve every bit of praise that they get. However, there are also freaks of nature that deserve to have their user executed. This post will be listing my my top 5 most favorite fonts.

Ever used Times New Roman and though to yourself: “Gee, I sure wish that Times would stop being so thin?” Well, here’s the solution to all your Times New Roman problems! Georgia! Now a whopping 1px wider*!
Really though, it was a tough decision between Times New Roman and this. They’re essentially the same font, but Times is thinner, and more condensed. You’d probably use it in a newspaper instead of Georgia to conserve ink. I actually think Georgia has a warmer feel to it. More… Welcoming, even. Times has those sharp serifs that I hate. Georgia’s are more dull (or rounded, if that’s what you prefer).

Thick outlines? Check. Rounded corners? Check. All-lowercase? Check. Very detailed? Check. Impractical? Check.
What’s not to love about Billo? It’s wperfect for the Myspace-addicted emoXXX gurl or the girl with the tare panda wallpaper, who wants to be in a j-pop band**. In other words, it’s a font that just screams “My Little Rockstar! xx<3″
The reason I like this, though, is because of its really think outline and tasteful fake 3D. I usually hate “3D” fonts because they all look like they were ripped straight out of a 90s kids magazine. In other words, terrible. Billo, however, uses all-lowercase letters, so it looks less sophisticated and more fun. Another font that uses this is Pointy.

Imagine a busy metropolis with people bustling around, expensive restaurants and clothing advertisements on every corner. You know, the kind you usually see in movies. When you think of the city’s name in your head, it will be in Bebas Neue.
Bebas Neue is the Helvetica for pessimists. While Helvetica tells you that “everything will be alright,” Bebas Neue is right there to punch it in the face, look you in the eyes and say “The whole planet will blow up in a minute. Nothing is going to be okay.” It’s the perfect font for laying down the harsh, but very real facts, and doing so in the most stylish way possible.

As you might’ve noticed, I love thick outlines. I also love pixely fonts. Combine these two, add some shadows, and you’ve got Fipps. It’s like taking all those old, dusty and dull gameboy fonts, and giving them new life. If you’re a pixel artist in the year 2011, Fipps is for you. Unless you only make smileys.

Words cannot describe how much I love taking complete opposites and mashing them together. This is the very definition of Angelic War. It combines the dirty, used feel of grunge with curls and serifs, the defining features of elegance. Also, all-lowercase.
But obviously, the general over-use of detail makes it impossible to use this font for anything but a logo or title. Surprisingly, the font works really well with images if it is outlined, or blurred a little. And I mean a little. Like, 0.3 px.
